Einstein@Home

Very cool application here! Or must I say screensaver. I already knew seti@home, the screensaver that helps researchers to find extraterrestial life, but here a more realistic research topic:

Einstein@Home: "Einstein@Home is a program that uses your computer's idle time to search for spinning neutron stars (also called pulsars) using data from the LIGO and GEO gravitational wave detectors. Einstein@Home is a World Year of Physics 2005 project supported by the American Physical Society (APS) and by a number of international organizations."

Einstein@home and Seti@home now use a new type of client: BOINC. Install instructions and how to set up can be found on the Einstein@home page. NB: If you use an ATI graphics card you must download also the -stable- beta version of the screensaver.
